Today I’m going to tell you a bit about Kernersville and The Triad and why it’s a great place to raise your family. But first, a bit about America’s favorite neighbor: Mister Rogers. There’s a new film just out called “Mister Rogers & Me” that I highly recommend. Film maker Benjamin Wagner first met “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” creator and star, Fred Rogers, at Rogers’ summer home on Nantucket, Mass. Wagner’s mother rented the cottage next door, so Mister Rogers really was his neighbor. The film explores Mr. Rogers’ message that “deep and simple is far more essential than shallow and complex.” And I totally agree with that!
But now back to our neighborhood: Kernersville, the “Heart of the Triad.” Located between Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point in the center of the Piedmont Triad, Kernersville is the second –largest municipality in Forsyth County, and according to Entrepreneur Magazine it’s seventh in the nation for small businesses.Fast-growing, Kernersville is low on crime and big on great schools. Housing is more varied – from rural properties to brand new developments – and more affordable than in larger Triad cities. But there’s one home that everyone’s just got to see, and that’s Körner’s Folly, an architectural masterpiece built in 1880 – and renovated continuously until 1924 – by interior designer Jules Körner, the grandson of Joseph Kerner. The Folly’s 22 rooms are eccentric and varied, and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and known as “the strangest house in America.”
Just about a month from now (the first Friday and Saturday in May), Kernersville will celebrate its “Spring Folly” festival. Other traditional Kernersville events include a Fourth of July celebration, Honey Bee Festival, downtown Halloween trick-or-treat, and a Christmas parade.A multitude of parks, playgrounds, ball fields, and trails provide plenty of opportunities for active families to keep busy…and stay healthy! And the town’s incredible YMCA features a 65,000-square-foot swimming facility that houses two swimming pools and a 6,000-square-foot water park (and working on another one!). But most of all, Kernersville is just a wonderful neighborhood, filled with the most valuable and coveted feature of any neighborhood – and that’s good neighbors!
